This series consists of printouts of information relating to an aboriginal genealogical project divided into the following regions: Aranda; NE Arnhem; Pitjantjatjara; Waramungu; Tiwi; Groote; Warray; Hodgson Downs; Duck Creek and Miscellaneous pipeline. The Northern Territory Government Cabinet directed the Department of Mines and Energy to record Aboriginal Genealogical Data. The department chose Autocadd as the software for recording the data. The aim was to use this material to create a data-base which would locate Aboriginal people and traditional boundaries throughout the Northern Territory, and identify specific Aboriginal interests in land through genealogies. The genealogical data supplied to the Government was a compilation, which when used in conjunction with the "Tribes and Territories" map, was to provide the Government with an effective tool in dealing with Aboriginal land issues. Since the compilation was all in hard copy, the first task was to arrange for a consultant, at the Government's expense, to input the information onto a database. In 1989 the Northern Territory Government entered into a contract to acquire from Dr Stephen Davis, for a limited period only, exclusive rights of access to genealogical and mapping data relating to the composition and location of Aboriginal groups throughout the Northern Territory. The standalone autocadd database was contained on a system with three bound hard copies of the genealogies to be produced - one for the Office of Aboriginal Development, one for Aboriginal Land Branch and one for the Aboriginal Areas Protection Authority. The project was subject to evaluation when Stephen Davis was unable to complete the work and not utilised.
